Joints
Frozen shoulder
A shoulder that slowly gets painful and stiff, making it hard to lift your arm or reach behind you.
Common signs
- Pain when reaching up or behind
- Stiffness that builds over weeks
- Pain at night when lying on that side
What usually causes it
The capsule around the shoulder joint thickens and tightens. It is more common after 40, in people with diabetes, and after a shoulder injury. It usually improves, but it can take time.
How we treat it
At your first visit we’ll ask how it started, what makes it better or worse, and check how you move. Then we agree a plan with you. It usually mixes hands-on care with simple exercises you can do at home, and you’ll always know why we’re doing what we do.
