Common signs

  • Pain spreading down one leg
  • Tingling or numbness in the foot
  • Pain that is worse when sitting

What usually causes it

Sciatica happens when the sciatic nerve is irritated, most often by a bulging disc in the lower back. It can feel alarming, but most people improve within six to twelve weeks.

How we treat it

At your first visit we’ll ask how it started, what makes it better or worse, and check how you move. Then we agree a plan with you. It usually mixes hands-on care with simple exercises you can do at home, and you’ll always know why we’re doing what we do.
